The directory shows 84 gambling sites run by 49 companies, yet poker appears at only 6 of them. The rest are mostly casino or sports betting sites, which means poker players have a much smaller set of choices than casino players do.

Who Can Play Poker Online?
You need to be at least 19 and located in Ontario at the time you place a bet. Simply living in the province is not enough on its own, since what matters is your location when you play.
Picking One of the Six Poker Sites
Four of the six stick to poker alone: PartyPoker, FanDuel Poker, BetMGM Poker and 888 Poker. GGPoker, operated by NSUS Limited, adds casino games on top. Bwin combines poker, casino games and sports betting in a single account, which works well for anyone who wants all three together.

Who Do You Play Against Today?
Right now, your opponents are only other people located in Ontario. A player pool means the group of people a site seats at the same tables. Ontario's pool excludes players outside Canada, and whether that could change is now a court matter.
The Court Case Over Playing With Players Abroad
At the heart of the case is section 207(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada, the part that lets provinces conduct and manage gambling. The judges were asked if Ontario players could sit at tables shared with players outside Canada.
On 11 November 2025, the Court of Appeal for Ontario gave its ruling. Four of the five judges said yes, with one dissenting.
The matter then moved to Canada's Supreme Court, and the appeal was heard there on 7 October 2026. The judges reserved judgment, so their decision will come at a later date.
Shared tables would not begin right away even after a final yes. First, Ontario would need agreements in place with overseas operators and their regulators.
